Cinespia Announces 2024 Season, Including Rose Bowl Stadium Debut
- By: Ashley Joy Parker
The movie magic kicks off this May.…
Cinespia, LA’s favorite cinematic experience presented by Amazon MGM Studios, is returning for its 23rd season at LA State Historic Park and for the first time ever, The Rose Bowl Stadium, kicking off a summer of programming with Mamma Mia! (5/10), Lord of the Rings 2: The Two Towers (5/17), and Almost Famous (5/25).
Then Cinespia ushers in summers at Hollywood Forever Cemetery with the best of best flicks including Seven (5/26), Legally Blonde (6/1), Dazed and Confused (6/8), Across The Universe (6/17), a special Pride screening of D.E.B.S. (6/22) and What Ever Happened To Baby Jane (6/29).
“We’re thrilled to be back for our 2024 summer season with an amazing initial lineup of films” said Cinespia founder, John Wyatt. “ We’re also beyond excited to announce our newest venue, the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium, where we will be showing a crowd favorite, Almost Famous.”
The beer and wine bar and concession stands are returning along with the free immersive photo booths that will feature dreamy scenes inspired by your favorite films. Cinespia DJs will also be spinning onsite before and after the films.
What began with a screening of Strangers on a Train for a few hundred people has become a Los Angeles institution, hosting hundreds of thousands of moviegoers on the famed Fairbanks Lawn. Now the most popular outdoor cinema event in Southern California, Cinespia is celebrated by fans and filmmakers for hosting a relaxed, off-beat experience.
Welcoming up to 4,000 moviegoers per night, guests are invited to bring their own blankets, food, and drinks (including beer and wine), before settling in under the stars for a classic (and sometimes campy) cinematic experience. The magic of Hollywood’s most memorable moments is heightened by the roar of the crowd and movies on the big screen. Every screening also features world class DJ talent to keep the crowd buzzing before and after the main event.
Check out the May & June Cinespia schedule below. Additional screenings for the 23rd season to be announced at a later date.
Friday, May 10 – Mamma Mia! at LA State Historic Park
Mamma Mia, here we go again for another year of screenings under the stars. Dancing queens: bring your mom, besties, or your honey honey, to sing, groove, and indulge in a joyous night. It’s three men and a little lady when a bride invites her mom’s three dot dot dots to see which one might be her dad. Oh father where art thou? Set to the timeless music of ABBA, the party never stops. Throw in gorgeous Greek locale (because, why not?) for a voyage that’s all pleasure. Say “Gimme, gimme, gimme” to delicious grilled food, or concessions candy classics sure to sweeten an unforgettable night. The Free Photo Booth will keep the memories from slipping through your fingers. DJ sets lay all our love on you, so take a chance on one of the most luminous nights of your life.

Friday, May 17 – Lord of the Rings 2: The Two Towers at LA State Historic Park
J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic phantasmagoria returns to Cinespia for Part Two. Our fantastical adventure opens with a whip-snap showdown and continues with one powerhouse battle after another. Sauron is on one with the eye of Mordor thirsting for domination. The Bling Ring’s perilous mission meets many obstacles, including incendiary (but lovable, kinda?) Gollum. Can the fellowship re-assemble before a new order of deplorables ravages the land? Watch as Gandalf answers the age-old question: Why stay gray when you can go white? Peter Jackson brings Tolkien’s world to life masterfully with SFX and character effects that immerse you in Middle Earth and beyond. Now that’s Ent-ertainment. Knock back draughts from our full onsite bar. Bring your own lembas, or indulge in grilled food and concessions treats. The world-building Free Photo Booth brings the journey to SoCal for one night only. So bright, so beautiful—our precious.
