Booze and Beetlejuice: Hollywood’s Spookiest Cocktail Experiences

Beakers and broomsticks and beetlejuice, oh my! From mad-scientist cocktail labs to gothic speakeasies, these are the five bars making Hollywood nightlife deliciously haunted this Halloween season.

If your ideal Halloween includes spirits of the liquid kind, consider this your guide to some of Hollywood’s most hauntingly good bars. Forget the candy because this October, the tastiest treats come in a glass. Here’s five places to drink your way through the spooky season in Hollywood.

Frankenstein’s Mad Scientist Cocktail Lab

Step into the lab and become part of the experiment. Frankenstein’s Mad Scientist Cocktail Lab is a pop-up presented by Bucketlisters that transforms Remix Room Hollywood into a neon-lit laboratory of delicious liquid chemistry. You’ll trade your menu for a lab manual, and your shaker for a beaker, while bartenders in goggles and lab coats guide you through electrified mixology rituals under flickering lighting effects. Expect tasty cocktail concoctions that bubble, smoke, and glow. Reservations are timed, and tickets can be purchased through Bucketlisters

Black Lagoon LA

Black Lagoon is a nautical haunted pop-up taking over Melrose Umbrella Co. for the month of October. A renowned traveling pop-up transforming local bar favorites into part haunted tavern, part haunted house, Black Lagoon brings an eerie bar experience backed by skeletons, dripping candles, spooky tiki glassware, and horror-fantasy visuals inspired by classic monsters. This year, they’re taking the haunt not just to Hollywood, but to Culver City at The Corner Door, and to Long Beach at The Ordinarie

Tombstone Saloon

If Hollywood had a haunted Wild West, Tombstone Saloon would be its main attraction. This spooky takeover is presented by Heartbreak Saloon, blending ghost town grit with saloon romance. Cowboy boots, swinging doors, and a soundtrack of twangy ballads are accompanied by whiskey-dominated drinks and haunting auras. Their drinks, like the atmosphere, are bold, dark, and seemingly unapologetic. Ticket entry includes a haunting experience with a spooky cocktail, and brunch on the weekends. Tickets can be purchased through Bucketlisters.

Beetle House LA

A year-round Halloween-themed bar in the heart of Hollywood, Beetle House has been keeping LA spooky since 2017. Inspired by Tim Burton’s cinematic world, this is where LA’s ghostly crowd gathers for dinner, drinks, and a touch of the absurd. Step into a theatrical world of striped walls, skull chandeliers, and servers who seem to know your favorite quote from The Nightmare Before Christmas by heart. If you’re craving a drink that looks like Jack Skellington made it himself, try This Is Halloween (cinnamon liquor, sour apple pucker, pumpkin liqueur, apple cider, and ginger beer) or The Beetle’s Juice (silver tequila, muddled blackberry, cranberry juice, lime juice, and simple syrup).

Room Number 13

A hidden speakeasy behind an unmarked door and a velvet curtain of Escape Hotel, Room Number 13 offers 20th century eerie elegance for the nocturnal sophisticate. Although not necessarily Halloween-themed, here, there’s a spooky spirit that never quite leaves, as dim candlelight and jazz with a sinister swing overtakes you. This destination is somewhat of a timemachine; immersive live shows and supperclub culture transport you into a moody 20’s-inspired world. If you want a drink that suits the season, order The Headless Horseman (vodka, bitters, lemon juice, and ginger syrup).
