Bangkok After Dark: 6 Hidden Speakeasy Bars You Can’t Miss

Bangkok’s nightlife can be like a game of hide-and-seek. Some of the city’s best nights don’t come with flashing signs telling you to “enter here.” Instead, they whisper through alleyways, hidden inside photo booths, unmarked doors, and hotel basements, only revealing themselves to those willing to chase the secret.

These six speakeasies define Bangkok’s most stylish after-dark scene, where atmosphere, live music, and mixology collide. Here’s where to drink when you’re ready to go off the grid. Welcome to Bangkok, behind closed doors.

1. The Photo Booth

Hidden behind an unassuming photo booth on Bangkok’s buzzing Banthat Thong Road, The Photo Booth nearly feels like a magic trick the first time you experience it. Step inside a booth, snap a few photos, press a button, and suddenly, you’re walking into a sleek, intimate cocktail lounge built for those who crave Bangkok’s hidden side and love a little immersive surprise along the way.

Created by the same team behind Find The Locker Room (another go-to Bangkok speakeasy known for its delightfully deceptive locker room entrance), The Photobooth was brought to life by five visionary owners and international bartenders, including Ronnaporn (Neung) Kanivichaporn, Janz Chennarong Bhumichitr, Colin Chia, Hidetsugu Ueno, and Nick Wu. Inside, the space glows like a dimly-lit photo-developing room washed in warm red hues, yet still feels like an unmistakably chic bar where unique drinks and live music shapes the night.

Their BTT POP menu is where things really get clever (and delicious), featuring cocktails inspired by the vibrant, bustling street food scene of the surrounding neighborhood. I went all in with the Auntie O’s Mary cocktail, inspired by Jeh O’s legendary street food: a savory, slushie-style Thai herb-infused vodka drink topped with an onsen egg and served with a side of pork cracklings. The bartender’s instructions? “Lick, dip, sip.” Did I mess up the order at first? Absolutely. Was it still incredible? Without question. The Fighting Words cocktail was also a standout, with its refreshingly sweet Suntory Kakubin Japanese whiskey and blend of pineapple, strawberry, and prosecco syrup. Similar to their drinks, The Photobooth is inventive and memorable, leaving an impression that stays with you well beyond the moment the camera clicks.

2. Black Cabin

From the street, Black Cabin easily looks like…someone’s house. Tucked into a quiet alleyway, it barely registers as a nightlife hotspot in Bangkok until you walk inside, head down a hallway, and step past the curtain. Suddenly, you’re swept into a live music venue buzzing all around you, where the energy of the band, the crowd, and even the low hum of conversations pull you straight into the night.

Inside, it’s all dim lighting, tightly packed tables, a central stage, and a crowd that’s fully locked in. Black Cabin seems to thrive on themed nights and curated events, which keeps the energy fresh and the crowd engaged. When I visited, it was Disney Tribute Night. It was joyful, yet sleek, and utterly entertaining with powerhouse singers and a captivating band turning nostalgic classics into full-room singalongs. The space is intimate without feeling small, and lively without feeling chaotic.

What really seals the deal is the cocktail menu, which feels as thoughtfully curated as the music. In The Fields blends chamomile-infused Roku gin with honey, peach, and lemon for something soft and floral, while Electric Feel mixes vodka, milk, berries, yogurt, and crème de mûre into a surprisingly smooth, candy-tasting drink. Dill With It brings herbal edge with Hendrick’s, absinthe, and orange bitters, and Let Me Lay Here layers bourbon, mezcal, cherry liqueur, and marshmallow foam into something cozy and smoky.

Black Cabin calls itself a home for adventurers, vinyl lovers, and soul and funk enthusiasts, and it shows. If you love live music with personality and polish, this is your spot.

3. Rabbit Hole

No signage, no flashing lights, just a large, unmarked brown wooden door that rewards those who know where to look. Step inside, and you’re immediately wrapped in moody lighting, plush seating, and a crowd that feels effortlessly cool…A.K.A: Rabbit Hole

The drinks are where the true experience lies, though. With a menu reading like a passport, their signature cocktails are inspired by 16 cities around the world. From Bangkok, Tokyo, Mexico City and Paris, to Havana, Delhi, London, Berlin and more, each drink is topped with imaginative garnishes that border on art. The Mexico City cocktail arrives topped with a floating tortilla chip filled with pico de gallo, while the Paris cocktail features a crème brûlée-style sugar disc you crack before sipping. Aside from being utterly indulgent, Rabbit Hole’s drinks are playful, precise, and deeply considered.

I spent a good part of the night working my way through their crossword-inspired menu, where each cocktail is tied to a different city and comes with a small clue you’re meant to solve as you sip. It’s playful without being gimmicky and smart without being intimidating, just like the bar itself. One drink easily turned into five, and suddenly I lost track of time, but not a moment was wasted. Rabbit Hole feels like a modern Bangkok rite of passage for nightlife lovers. It’s the kind of place you seek out when you want a break from the flashy lounges, and once you’ve found it, you get why people keep coming back.

4. Hannibal Hidden Rooftop Bar

If you didn’t know where to look, you’d probably never find Hannibal. Hidden inside the Pichaiyart Building in Chinatown, you walk past massage parlors and karaoke rooms to finally reach a hallway that opens into a surreal rooftop escape. The vibe is straight out of a ‘90s Hong Kong noir film, as neon glows across industrial interiors, cinematic city lights makes every corner feel alive, and a dramatic statue of the Chinese god of war, Guan Yu, overlooking it all.

The bar itself is built on a slope, which bartenders let you use to “roll” their signature drinks instead of shaking them. The Roller Girl and Roller Boy cocktails arrive sealed in bowling balls and glide down a custom bar lane before landing perfectly mixed in your glass. It’s theatrical, playful, and perfectly on-brand for a place that seems to thrive on the unexpected.

This hidden rooftop bar is perfect for explorers and nightlife insiders, as it’s wildly photogenic, endlessly fun, and the kind of spot you never stop bragging about finding.

5. Abandoned Mansion

Finding Abandoned Mansion feels like stepping into a secret chapter of Bangkok’s nightlife. You head to the back of The Coach Hotel Sukhumvit lobby, follow an unmarked corridor, and descend into the basement, where the modern city fades and the 1930s suddenly take over. The space transports you into a glamorous, American gangster hideout with low-lit tables and live jazz filling the air. It’s moody and immersive, like the kind of place that makes you forget what time it is, or even what decade you’re in.

The cocktail menu doubles down on the narrative, presented as a yellowed newspaper filled with short biographies of real-life Prohibition-era “public enemies.” Each drink feels like part of the story. The Al Capone blends American fat-washed whiskey, red vermouth, and butterscotch into something rich and indulgent. Bonnie and Clyde brings a softer edge with lemon-infused gin, Moscato, and rose syrup, while Melvin Purvis mixes Jägermeister, Aperol, maraschino cherry, and egg white into a surprisingly balanced, bittersweet sip.

With live music setting the mood and storytelling built into every detail, Abandoned Mansion is an ideal visit for people who want their drinks topped with a theatrical edge and layered with history. It’s for nights when you’re in the mood for a little escapism, served underground, behind closed doors, and far from the usual Bangkok buzz.

6. The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar

The moment you take your first steps into The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar, it’s like you’re discovering a dazzling, hidden gem. Tucked away in a secret garden on the 24th and 25th floors of Hotel Muse, this is almost like an exclusive hideout rather than a typical rooftop bar; one you only find if someone tells you or you’re curious enough to go looking.

This spot leans fully into its Prohibition-era fantasy, with classic 1920s-inspired details that make you forget you’re standing above one of Asia’s busiest cities. On the weekends, live jazz and pop sets float through the air while the skyline stretches endlessly around you.

The Speakeasy Rooftop is also known for its story-driven cocktail menu, which leans into the romance of the 1920s and the golden age of travel without feeling like a costume party. Drinks come with their own narratives, like the Jazz Smash: a floral, refreshing mix of gin, aloe vera, elderflower, and butterfly pea. The Orient Express blends whisky, dry vermouth, honey, and bitters into something rich and nostalgic, while the Speakeasy Sling is a vodka-coconut creation served in a smoking, old-fashioned radio box. For the people who care about atmosphere as much as mixology, this is a rooftop bar that might win you over.

These Bangkok bars aren’t just hiding for the sake of it, they’re doing it with intention and creativeness. They reward curiosity and a willingness to explore beyond the obvious.

Whether you’re slipping into a photo booth, opening an unmarked door, or descending into a jazz-filled basement, each of these spots deliver their own unique experiences. No wristbands. No shouting promoters. Just atmosphere, artistry, and a crowd that dared to find out.
