Exes to Duets: SZA and Drake Tease New Single Together Via Instagram Posts

The collab we didn’t know we needed.….

Everyone knows about the concepts of “friends to lovers” and “enemies to lovers,” but artists Drake and SZA are living out the “ex-lovers to co-collaborators” trope.

On Sept. 13, the two posted the same photo on their Instagrams: an image of Halle Berry getting slimed at the 2012 Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards. If fans didn’t make the connection on their own, the two artists tagged each other to make it even more obvious.

The iconic photo of the “Catwoman” actress had a parental advisory logo in the corner, leading fans to believe this is the visual for an upcoming collaboration. Drake previously warned fans a song was coming in advance to his next studio album For All The Dogs, which releases Sept. 22.

“I know y’all are excited to hear the album. I know it’s like two weeks out, but I’m gonna drop a song this week – just to let you know what’s up,” the “Rich Flex” singer told the crowd at his recent Austin, Texas show.

The single is believed to be released this Friday, Sept. 15, but Drake and SZA’s history starts way before this song. The “Passionfruit” singer revealed that he and SZA dated in his 2021 song “Mr. Right Now.” The Canadian artist wrote the lyric “‘Yeah, said she wanna f*** to some SZA, wait/Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08.”

After the song was released, “The Kill Bill” singer went to Twitter (now known as “X”) to correct Drake on the accuracy of his lyrics. She tweeted, “So It was actually 2009 lol,” but everyone can assume that Drake pushed it a year forward for the sake of a rhyme.

However, there is obviously no bad blood between the two, as SZA even said in a 2022 interview with Audacy that she “thinks highly” of the “God’s Plan” rapper. And now, they are reunited for a single that could potentially take the autumn music scene by storm.
