5 Staycations To Book In Los Angeles and Las Vegas This Summer
- Words by Kristina Kulyabina
While that international trip you’ve been dreaming of might not happen any time soon, summer 2020 isn’t canceled.
Make it count by booking a summer staycation that not only gets you out of the house but also helps boost the local economy. There are so many swanky hotels and elevated experiences available to us within driving distance throughout the Los Angeles and Las Vegas areas. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite properties that are exercising precautions during the pandemic in order to safely welcome guests with open arms, figuratively speaking.
Delano, Las Vegas
One of Sin City’s classiest, all-suite boutique hotels, Delano Las Vegas is accepting reservations and is ready to spoil you with luxury. Delano Las Vegas has it all for the posh traveler, from a 4,500-square-foot penthouse suite to a prime location just steps away from award-winning dining at Mandalay Bay. In order to ensure the safety of its guests, the MGM-owned property has made a few adjustments. According to the hotel’s website, guests are required to wear masks inside public spaces. The MGM Resorts team has also composed a seven-point safety plan, which includes employee temperature checks, enhanced sanitation and the availability of as much outside air circulation as possible. In terms of dining, guests are added to a virtual queue that notifies them by text when a table is ready, and digital menus are available through a QR code. To see which restaurants are open for service, check out the MGM website. Also, don’t worry about leaving your now super-attached dog at home—Delano Las Vegas is pet-friendly!
Luxor, Las Vegas
Luxor, Las Vegas, also part of MGM Resorts, has adopted the same safety guidelines as the Delano, with a few more precautions. Although valet isn’t available for the time being, Luxor is offering free self-parking to its guests. The pool deck, which claims to be the largest in Las Vegas, is open with limited hours on a first-come, first-served basis due to occupancy restrictions. Some of the unchanged hotel features include its giant pyramid shape, which makes you feel like you’ve traveled far away. Luxor is composed of 30 stories, which hold rooms with slanted windows granting views of the Las Vegas Strip. If you’re craving a spa treatment, a similar experience is made available in-room with the Fresh by Stay Well program, which includes aromatherapy, air purification, a shower infuser to reduce chlorine and access to Cleveland Clinic’s online programs for sleep, stress and nutrition—something we could all benefit from right now.
The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills, Los Angeles
A perfect summer staycation destination, The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills has re-opened with access to its pool deck. This glamorous WEHO hotel offers guests a sanctuary for both business and pleasure. The suites come with sophisticated work spaces, each of which is bathed in off-white tones and offers views of the Hollywood Hills or the L.A. skyline. Currently, The London West Hollywood’s screening room is closed, afternoon tea service is suspended and all non-essential items, including the minibars, have also been removed from rooms, although purchases can still be made through room service. The London West Hollywood is taking cleaning measures seriously by using an antimicrobial fogging sanitizing and cleaning system in all guest rooms and common areas. Additionally, housekeeping services are only taking place upon request.
Hotel June, Los Angeles
Located near Los Angeles International Airport, Hotel June is a brand new and more affordable property by the Proper Hospitality team, which is also behind the Santa Monica Proper Hotel. While Hotel June had to delay its opening due to the timing of COVID-19, it’s now taking reservations with a pretty flexible cancellation policy (all new reservations are fully refundable for up to 24 hours prior to arrival). The Caravan Swim Club is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offers a socially distanced poolside area. Contemporary accommodations, complete with cacti and beachy touches, offer coastline or city views. Rooms will remain unoccupied for 24 hours between guests to allow for thorough sanitation and cleaning. Additionally, no-touch payment options are available, all room service orders are left outside the door and all persons within the hotel (both guests and employees) are required to wear masks. Hotel June is well worth a summer staycation, and safety is guaranteed as a main concern.
Hotel Joaquin, Laguna Beach
Feel like taking a beach trip? Hotel Joaquin, nestled just above Shaw’s Cove, is the perfect choice of accommodations at Laguna Beach. This relatively new hotel boasts an open-air layout ideal for times like these. Still, the property maintains its petite-resort flair with 22 rooms, each individually designed with vintage furniture, curated artwork, and hand-cut and crafted tile. As you enter the reception area, sweet sounds of spinning vinyl records fill your ears. Hotel Joaquin is hip and relaxing, but most importantly, it’s a safe summer staycation destination. The hotel has partnered with a renowned sanitizing expert, Ecolab, on a five-step cleaning process for the whole property. The pool’s lounging area has been carefully spaced out for social distancing. Minibar items are available upon request, and the property’s famed morning coffee and pastries delivery will be placed outside guests’ doors at the time of their choice.
