Festival season continues out in the Coachella Valley this weekend with Stagecoach featuring performacning by Morgan Wallen, Miranda Lambert, Diplo and more. And if you aren’t headed to the desert, we know the FOMO back in LA can be real. But don’t you worry nightlife cowboys, there are plenty of fun things going down right here in the city. Movie & Bites | “The Island of Cats” at JAPAN HOUSE
JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles is bringing back its beloved “Movie & Bites” series this spring, featuring the L.A. premiere of the film, “The Island of Cats” (2019). Directed by the world-renowned animal photographer, Mitsuaki Iwago, whose photos have graced the cover of National Geographic magazine, the film takes you to springtime on a picturesque cat island, where adorable feline companions roam freely amidst the beauty of nature. Daikichi, the lead character, who honors the memory of his deceased wife through the preparation of traditional Japanese dishes, adds a heartfelt touch to the film’s narrative.
Following the screening, Chef Yoshitaka Mitsue of JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles’ restaurant, UKA, recently added to the prestigious 2024 MICHELIN Guide California selection, will guide guests to immerse in the culinary world of the film. He will demonstrate how to prepare dishes seen on-screen such as the delicate folds of tamagoyaki* (Japanese rolled omelet) as well as a vibrantly assembled chirashi sushi*, and introduce the nostalgic sweetness of melon cream soda*, followed by a tasting experience.

Candlelight Spring: A Tribute to Taylor Swift
Fresh off the release of The Tortured Poets Department, enjoy the music of Taylor Swift in a way you’ve never seen before. The Candlelight Spring event at Skirball Cultural Center will be a multi-sensory experience headed by the Orchid Quartet under the glow of candlelight.

Too Cool for SOOL at OTOTO and Tsubaki
Hana Makgeolli founder and winemaker Alice Jun is coming out to Los Angeles from her Brooklyn brewery and tasting room to introduce her Makgeolli (available by the glass and in flights for purchase) and chat with diners, popping back and forth the neighboring restaurants all night. Both restaurants will feature a couple of Korean dishes in honor of their special guest: OTOTO will be featuring a Nira Jeon (pancake) among their specials while Tsubaki will be doing a Korean fish dish.
Note: This is not any sort of set menu or ticketed event; reservations at Tsubaki are recommended but not required; OTOTO is walk-ins only as always.

Too Cool for LIL TEXAS at Avalon
Electronic musician LIL TEXAS is coming to Avalon Hollywood. Here for the underdogs and outcasts of electronic music, LIL TEXAS has inspired a groundbreaking movement for American hardcore. With his roots embedded in jazz and classical music, LIL TEXAS shifted from being a member of a band to creating his own artistic identity dedicated to the rave. He’s now known for his extreme brand of high-speed techno music that he dubs Texcore.

Orange Glou Fair
Dedicated exclusively to orange wines, the Orange Glou Fair—created by Sommelier and wine educator Doreen Winkler—will welcome 20 superstar wineries from all around the world, with over 80 orange wines for guests to taste, focused on domestic producers and Georgian producers. (Fun fact: orange wine was first produced 8,000 years ago in the Republic of Georgia).
