5 Parties Going Down In L.A. Juneteenth Weekend

Commemorate and celebrate….

Just one week before the first official day of summer, Los Angeles is buzzing with jubilant Juneteenth celebrations.

Recognizned as a federal holiday since 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law, the day commemorates the historic emancipation of enslaved African Americans. The name Juneteenth—derived from combining June and nineteenth—comes from the anniversary of Union Major General Gordon Granger’s order on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for slaves in Texas.

Now, like the Fourth of July, Juneteenth is celebrated properly with a three-day weekend, which means plenty of opportunities to get out there and celebrate (with an extra day to recover, of course). From rooftop brunches to late night DJ sets, check out five parties going down this Juneteenth weekend in Los Angeles.
